1. A Business Profile also known as a Company Profile typically is a part of the overall process of crafting a comprehensive Business Plan. A Business Profile often is the initial information a client or customer encounters about a particular company. A business profile is like a resume for your company. It lists basic company details and gives you a chance to highlight your strengths. Just like a resume, you should write each business profile with a purpose in mind. Use it as an opportunity to briefly state why potential clients should work with you, but give thorough and precise details.

Elements of Business Profile

2. The exact elements included in your company description can vary, but here is a list of some of the most important parts to consider:

Company Name. The official name of your business as registered in the state where you do business.

Type of Business Structure. Sole Proprietorship, Partnership or Corporation.

Ownership/Management Team. Names of the key people behind the company.

Location. Place where it is located.

Company History. When was the business started, what inspired you to start the business, what need does your company fulfill?

Mission Statement. A clear statement that represents the purpose of your company.

Products/Services and Target Market. A brief overview of what you plan to sell and to whom.

Objectives. An outline of what you want to accomplish in the immediate future based on the data in the rest of the business plan as well future growth goals.

Vision Statement. A statement about how you envision the future of the company.

Tips for Writing A Company Description

Here are a few tips for writing a comprehensive company description in your business plan that answers all of the readers' questions about who you are, what you do and why you do it.

1. Start with an Elevator Pitch. Begin the company description section with a paragraph that captures all of the vital information about your company.

2. Stick with High Level Information. Some of the information in your company description will be included in other sections of your business plan. For these parts, provide only a high-level overview and leave all of the specific details for the related section.

3. Show Your Passion. Let your passion and excitement show in the company description section as you explain why you started the company and what you hope to accomplish. Your excitement should show in the tone of your writing, and your aim should be to get the reader interested in reading the rest of the business plan.

4. Do a Length Check. When you're writing about the passion and excitement that led you to start your company, it can be easy to get carried away and use more words than necessary to get your point across. Once you've drafted your company description, go back and cut out any unnecessary parts or duplicate information to make it clear and concise.

5. Have It Proofread. Ask someone who hasn't seen various drafts of the company description to review it for typos, grammatical errors or flow problems that could hurt the impact it has on the reader.

Other Important Tips To Write A Business Profile

1. Be Accurate. A business profile must contain thoroughly accurate information. Consumers are prone to confirming information provided to them. In addition, grammar and punctuation also must be correct in a business profile.

2. Concise. An overriding objective in writing a business profile is to keep it concise and to the point. The primary purpose of a business profile is to present the main elements of the company's operations in the most positive light possible. The profile must convey the information to an individual who may only glance over the material.

3. Be Creative. In this age of constant information technology and unending advertising, a business profile must be presented in a creative manner. A business profile must grab a potential client or customer's attention. The choice of words must be direct and compelling, even entertaining, depending on the nature of the business itself.

4. Be Complete. An effective business profile must be as complete and comprehensive as possible. Included in a complete business profile is an overview of goods or services provided by the company. In addition, the profile includes information about its performance and reputation as well as its organizational structure.

5. Be Timely. Businesses change and evolve over time. Therefore, an appropriate business profile is kept updated. Undertaking regular reviews of the business profile is necessary. A time frame for reviewing a business profile is at least once in every months or anytime a major development occurs impacting the company and its operations.
